ADC Says Tinubu Will Be Held Responsible if Anything Happens to El-Rufai
The African Democratic Congress has warned President Bola Tinubu that he would be held personally responsible if anything happened to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai while in detention. El-Rufai was reportedly detained by the ICPC in February 2026 over a petition alleging corruption, abuse of office and money laundering during his time as governor. A Magistrate Court in Abuja granted a 14-day remand order under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, which was later extended. ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi argued that El-Rufai's continued detention was politically motivated and intended to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections. He said the party believes the allegations should be determined by a court.
