Falana Demands FG Explain How ‘PFIPC’ Entered Budget, CBN Accounts and Secretariat Offices

Falana Demands FG Explain How ‘PFIPC’ Entered Budget, CBN Accounts and Secretariat Offices

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has challenged the Federal Government to clarify the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. He said the Presidency’s statement failed to answer key questions. Falana asked how an agency not established by law appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act. He also questioned its office in the Federal Secretariat, its accounts at the Central Bank and the deployment of about 300 civil servants. He urged the government to reopen its inquiry, involve all relevant institutions and call for an independent probe. He further suggested the Chief of Staff to the President step aside temporarily to ensure transparency. The controversy began after the Office of the Chief of Staff denied any link with the PFIPC. Documents later showed a ₦1.3bn allocation to the disputed council and sparked calls from opposition politicians and civil society groups for a full explanation and investigation.

What checks and balances should be in place before a new agency like PFIPC appears in the budget without clear legal backing?

No doubt! We need clear law backing, parliamentary oversight, and rigorous audit before any new agency kicks off.

It's odd that an agency with no legal foundation suddenly shows up in multiple government documents and accounts.

Assuming FG inserted PFIPC intentionally seems premature without evidence, especially if clerical errors could explain the discrepancy.

The National Assembly should demand detailed budget breakdowns and audit trails to verify how any unlegislated agency appears in public accounts.
