Imo State Woman Arrested Over Alleged Torture of Five-Year-Old Househelp
Juliet Igwe, a 38-year-old resident of Uruala in Ideato North LGA, Imo State, was arrested for allegedly torturing her five-year-old househelp, Onyinyechi. Authorities say she poured boiling water on the child’s hands and used an open candle flame on her private parts. The police also reported multiple burns and injuries across the girl’s body. Igwe claims the child stole food. She was paraded by the Imo State Police and remanded on charges of attempted murder and grievous harm. This case highlights the dangers of child labour and abuse. A five-year-old should never be engaged in domestic work. Justice must be served without leniency.
