Bauchi Community Leader Killed After Beer Parlour Dispute, Neighbour Arrested
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 40-year-old Clement Anthony for the killing of community leader Jacob Bature. The 55-year-old victim served as the Mai Anguwa of Unguwar Ngas in the Inkil area of Bauchi Local Government. Police say the incident happened on the evening of July 19, when Anthony, who lives next door to Bature, argued with him at a local beer parlour and then opened fire with a locally made single-barrel gun. Bature sustained gunshot wounds to his right ribs, collapsed, and was confirmed dead at ATBU Teaching Hospital. Officers recovered the homemade firearm and an expended cartridge during Anthony’s arrest. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation. The Commissioner of Police condemned the act and urged residents to avoid illegal firearms and report suspicious behaviour promptly.
