The Beginning: Days One and Two of Creation
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness covered the deep, while the Spirit of God hovered over the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and light appeared. He saw that the light was good and separated it from the darkness, calling the light Day and the darkness Night. Next, God commanded a firmament to divide the waters. He made the expanse and named it Heaven, separating the waters above from those below. Thus the evening and the morning marked the second day of creation.
