Beyond the Photo Op: Did Nigeria’s UK State Visit Deliver Real Value?
I believe state visits are not tourism and diplomacy is not a fashion parade. Every foreign trip must bring real benefits to our people. During President Trump’s visit to China, top officials and business leaders joined the delegation and led multi-billion-dollar deals, including about 200 Boeing orders. Nigeria’s recent UK trip involved a large entourage of politicians, ministers and aides. Yet we have no clear details on new factories, investments or job creation. With insecurity, unemployment and high poverty, every kobo spent abroad must secure factories, technology transfer and jobs. Leadership must deliver measurable economic results, not just glossy photos.
