1 / 2

Prof. Nora Ladi Daduut has formally taken office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea after presenting her Letter of Credence to President Lee Jae Myung at the Blue House in Seoul. The ceremony saw eight new envoys from countries including Brazil, Colombia and Nigeria officially accredited to begin their diplomatic missions. Under protocol, ambassadors must present credentials issued by their Heads of State before starting their duties. Daduut pledged to deepen Nigeria–Korea ties by boosting trade, investment, technology transfer, education and cultural exchange. She also assured Nigerians in South Korea of an open-door embassy policy and protection of their welfare. She thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence placed in her and met with the Korea-Africa Foundation to discuss collaboration on key areas of mutual interest.

It's good to see the ceremony happen, but I wonder if this change will bring any real shift in bilateral relations.

Ceremonial presentations don't always translate into policy change; we shouldn't assume immediate benefits just because credentials were handed over.

To strengthen ties, the embassy could host targeted business forums and educational exchanges that spotlight opportunities between Nigeria and South Korea.
