INEC Gives Parties Three-Day Extension to Submit 2027 Candidate Lists

The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the deadline for parties to upload their 2027 presidential and National Assembly candidate lists. The original cut-off was Saturday, July 11, 2026. It is now midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. INEC says the extension follows a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council. INEC warns that no further extensions will be granted. Political parties are urged to complete their submissions before the new deadline to stay within the electoral timetable.

With this extra time, do you think smaller parties will finally meet the requirements and submit their candidate lists on time?

Honestly, this extra window might be just the push our smaller parties needed to gather documents and meet the deadline.

INEC's three-day extension seems generous at first, but it raises questions about their initial planning and deadlines enforcement.

I'm not convinced that more time will change anything. Parties often miss deadlines due to internal issues, not just tight schedules.

To avoid last-minute rush, parties should start uploading lists now and verify all required documents before the new deadline arrives.
