ADC Faction Backed by David Mark Appeals to CJN for Swift Supreme Court Ruling

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction aligned with former Senate President David Mark has formally urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria to deliver a prompt verdict on the party’s ongoing leadership dispute. In a letter dated April 28, 2026, party counsel Shaibu Enejoh Aruwa warned that any delay beyond three days could prevent the ADC from participating in the 2027 general elections. The appeal challenges a March 12 decision by the Court of Appeal to maintain the status quo in the case filed by a rival faction. Mark’s team argues that the appellate court overstepped its jurisdiction by interfering in internal party affairs. They stress that millions of Nigerians risk being disenfranchised if the Supreme Court judgment is not issued in time for INEC’s election preparations. This case follows a September 2025 Federal High Court ruling and subsequent appeal, with judgment now reserved at the apex court. The faction insists that justice delayed would amount to justice denied for its members nationwide.

How might a swift Supreme Court ruling reshape ADC's leadership contest and the broader political dynamics at play?

True, a quick Supreme Court decision could settle ADC's leadership dispute and signal stability for other parties too.

I see your point but swift ruling alone may not settle internal rifts or broader alliances quickly, more factors matter.

It's surprising that the faction chose a formal letter now, when internal disputes have simmered for months. Timing feels strategic.

I'm not convinced speed alone will resolve deep divisions within ADC; court orders can't fix loyalty issues overnight.

Both factions should consider mediation alongside legal channels to ensure any court verdict sticks and promotes party unity.
