Alleged PFIPC DG Claims He Was Detained While ₦1.3bn ‘Ghost Agency’ Budget Was Approved, Demands Probe

Alleged PFIPC DG Claims He Was Detained While ₦1.3bn ‘Ghost Agency’ Budget Was Approved, Demands Probe — 1 of 3

The man who claims to be Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has broken his silence. In an interview with social media activist VDM, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew says he was in police custody when the 2026 budget was prepared. Adeyemi insists he had no role in drafting or defending the agency’s ₦1.3 billion allocation. He was detained for 23 days and could not have attended any budget sessions. He questions how a body the Presidency calls “non-existent” survived every approval step, from the Budget Office to presidential assent. He has offered to hand over all records to security agencies and demands a full investigation. Critical questions remain: Who authorised the line item? Which officials overlooked the agency’s legal status? Investigations are ongoing as the Senate and Presidency trade blame.

How could a ghost agency secure such a massive ₦1.3bn budget while the DG was detained? What flaws in our oversight allowed this to happen?

Do we have clear records showing how that budget got approved despite the DG's absence?

It seems suspicious that a ghost agency received ₦1.3bn without any transparent oversight or records during the budget process.

Are we jumping to call it a ghost agency when maybe the records exist elsewhere? We need full context.

I'm not convinced detention timing explains how the budget passed. This excuse feels too convenient to avoid responsibility for missing oversight.

Lawmakers should commission an independent audit of the PFIPC budget and hold a public hearing to restore confidence and prevent future ghost allocations.
