Jide Awobona Calls Out Actors Who Publicly Troll Their Colleagues

Jide Awobona Calls Out Actors Who Publicly Troll Their Colleagues

Nollywood star Jide Awobona has expressed surprise and disappointment at fellow actors who join online trolls to mock or shade their peers. He warned that fabricating gossip and sharing unverified rumours to damage reputations does more harm than entertainment. He argued that as creatives, actors should appreciate the work, sacrifices and mental health challenges the profession demands. Publicly tearing down colleagues, he said, is not the behaviour of a true creative but of a fan or hater. His remarks echo recent complaints across the industry about hypocrisy and “fake love.” Other actors have similarly decried internal attacks and urged that genuine support replace envy and spite among Nollywood professionals.

Isn't some harmless teasing inevitable in such a competitive environment, though? Actors have always thrown shade to stay relevant.

Actors could agree on a public code of etiquette for social media interactions to curb gossip and protect each other's reputations.
