Police Kill Suspected Imo Gang Leader ‘Acid’ in Ohaji/Egbema Gun Battle
Police say Special Tactical Squad operatives killed Ojiogu Elumah Martin, known as “Acid,” during an alleged gun battle at his hideout in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State on August 6, 2026. Officers reportedly recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines and 56 rounds of live ammunition. The Nigeria Police Force alleges that Martin led a criminal group linked to killings, attacks on businesses, arson, pipeline vandalism and damage to industrial equipment in Ohaji/Egbema and nearby communities. Other suspected members fled the scene, according to the police. Investigators are examining the group’s alleged connection to the April killing of Ochia monarch Eze Paulinus Ekwueme and five others, as well as other violent incidents recorded between 2024 and 2026. Police say efforts to arrest fleeing suspects are ongoing.
