Need Advice: Should My Fiancée’s Food Mart Cover Our Household Expenses?

Good day, everyone. I value your experience and advice. I earn ₦350,000 monthly. My fiancée, a newly graduated nurse, and I agreed I would save ₦5 million to help her start a food mart. The plan was that she would sell foodstuffs in wholesale and retail to support the household. I have now reached my goal of ₦5 million. I expect her business to handle groceries, children’s clothing, and daily upkeep. I will cover rent, school fees, and home projects. She insists the business is her own venture, not for family expenses. Am I asking too much? Is this plan fair or greedy? I need your mature advice.

Do you have a backup plan if the food mart's early profits can't cover your monthly household bills?

Absolutely! Having emergency savings or a small side hustle is smart in case profits dip.

I feel you, but trusting just early returns for all bills could backfire. Consider building a safety net first.

It sounds like betting the household budget on a new business could create stress if revenue fluctuates month to month.

Relying on a startup to cover daily living costs might be too risky; perhaps you should keep personal and business finances separate from the start.

You could start by tracking her food mart's sales against household needs for three months before agreeing to cover all expenses.
