Osun Election: How Can Nigeria Tackle Voter Apathy and Low Turnout?

Congratulations to Governor Ademola Adeleke on his Osun governorship election victory. He won the majority of votes cast, showing that those who participated made their choice clear. However, voter turnout remains a major concern. Osun had more than 2.3 million registered voters, and about 1.9 million collected their PVCs. Yet, just over 900,000 votes were cast. This means that more than half of eligible voters did not participate in deciding the state's future. Low turnout leaves elections vulnerable to vote buying and allows a smaller number of people to determine outcomes for everyone. There is no polling unit on social media; voting remains the most direct way to make our voices count. What should government, INEC, civil society groups and communities do to encourage more Nigerians to vote?
