Businessman Petitions NJC Over Adamawa Court Order and Alleged Bank-Record Disclosure
Abuja businessman Muhammad Ibukun Abubakar has petitioned the National Judicial Council, asking it to investigate Justice Musa Usman of the Adamawa State High Court over allegations of jurisdictional overreach, abuse of judicial powers and denial of fair hearing. The petition concerns a dispute involving Pavilion Motors Limited and the Incorporated Trustees of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria. Abubakar alleges that the contract in dispute was made and meant to be performed in Abuja, and that the Adamawa court lacked territorial jurisdiction. He further alleges that an ex parte order froze his personal and corporate accounts, including accounts linked to his BVN, without giving him a chance to be heard. He also accused UBA of placing restrictions on the accounts without sufficient legal basis and alleged that his confidential banking records were shared without his authorisation. Abubakar has called on the NJC, police, DSS, EFCC and Nigeria Data Protection Commission to investigate. Justice Usman, UBA, Pavilion Motors and the other persons named had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of the report.
