Okoye’s Big Chance: Amoo Backs Him as Super Eagles’ No.1
Former Shooting Stars coach Fatai Amoo has urged Maduka Okoye to capitalise on his impressive Udinese form and stake a claim for Nigeria’s top goalkeeping role. With Stanley Nwabali unavailable after leaving Chippa United, Okoye looks set to start in the upcoming friendlies against Iran and Jordan. Amoo stresses that strong club displays must now be matched on the international stage. “He has been impressive in Serie A, but at national level he must prove his worth,” Amoo said. He believes Nwabali’s absence presents a golden opportunity for Okoye and other contenders. Okoye’s last outing for Nigeria came in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Now he has a real chance to cement himself as the Super Eagles’ reliable number one.
