EFCC Arrests Alleged Fake Lawyer Over Forged NBA Seal in Lagos

EFCC Arrests Alleged Fake Lawyer Over Forged NBA Seal in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched an investigation into John Anoruo, a suspected fake lawyer operating a consultancy in Ikorodu, Lagos. He was arrested after submitting both a petition and a withdrawal letter against Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited. Investigators found the documents bore a forged Nigerian Bar Association seal. Anoruo confessed he obtained the seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos. He said he earned a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, through evening classes but never attended the Nigerian Law School. The suspect will be charged in court once EFCC completes its investigations.

True, spotting a forged seal matters, but also watch for typos, missing lawyer registration numbers and inconsistent letterheads.

It's odd that he could run a consultancy in Ikorodu for so long with a fake law qualification before EFCC stepped in.

It's surprising the EFCC only moved after the NBA seal forgery; reviewing his earlier petition might have uncovered problems sooner.

Make sure say you check the lawyer's NBA registration number and confirm the seal on official letterheads before you sign anything.
