Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Son Jailed for Four Years After Rape Conviction

Marius Borg Hiby, 29, was sentenced to four years in prison after an Oslo court found him guilty on two counts of rape. The verdict followed a six-week trial that revealed allegations of violence, drug abuse and sexual misconduct against his former girlfriend. He was also convicted of assault, issuing threats and traffic offences, though acquitted on two other rape charges. Evidence presented included over 800 messages and self-made videos of sexual encounters, with one alleged assault said to have occurred in the royal family’s basement. Hiby denied the most serious allegations but admitted to some lesser offences. He attended the verdict via video link. The case comes as his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, battles advanced pulmonary fibrosis and has been placed on Norway’s lung transplant waiting list.
