Why Nigeria Needs a Revolution: Debunking Reform Arguments
I’m responding to two popular viewpoints on revolution in Nigeria. One says revolutions only benefit a few. The other praises regulated capitalism. Both ignore a key truth. Pervasive injustice and oppression under long-serving, undemocratic leaders leave no room for genuine progress. Under Buhari’s government, Nigeria crossed the threshold of a failed state. A people-powered revolution could have paved the way for a real reset through a national referendum. Instead, voters repeated the same mistake since 1999, hoping a new politician would change their fortune. Nigeria remains a country on paper, not a united nation. Our 1999 constitution was imposed without direct public input. Its flawed foundation highlights the injustice fueling calls for revolution.
