Ekiti Governorship Polls Open: Early Turnout at Oyebanji’s Ikogosi Unit

Ekiti Governorship Polls Open: Early Turnout at Oyebanji’s Ikogosi Unit

Residents in Ikogosi, Ekiti West LGA, turned out early Saturday as voting began at Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s family polling unit. At Ward 6, Polling Unit 003, voters checked their names on the register before queuing to cast ballots. INEC officials arrived before 8:30 a.m. to brief residents and oversee accreditation. One voter, Aduke, expressed optimism after confirming her name on the register and encouraged others to exercise their civic duty. In Oke Oriomi, Ado-Ekiti, residents also arrived as early as 7 a.m. to verify their registration ahead of accreditation. Across Ekiti State’s 16 local government areas, voters trekked varying distances under a heavy security presence. Electoral materials were delivered in advance to ensure a smooth exercise as voting continues throughout the day under INEC supervision.

What drove residents in Ikogosi to turn out so early, and do you think this momentum will spread to other units?

Any evidence this early turnout reflects real voter interest or just isolated enthusiasm at that unit?

Early arrival of INEC officials is notable, but turnout numbers still look modest compared to previous elections in Ekiti West.

I'm not convinced early queues at Oyebanji's unit guarantee as widespread enthusiasm as portrayed by media reports.

Voters should double-check their names on the register and arrive before accreditation begins to avoid last minute delays.
