Oshoala: Super Falcons Know What Is at Stake After Super Eagles’ World Cup Miss
Asisat Oshoala says the Super Falcons understand the urgency of qualifying for the 2027 Women’s World Cup after the Super Eagles missed the 2026 men’s tournament. Nigeria began their WAFCON 2026 Group C campaign with a surprise 3-2 defeat to Malawi. Temwa Chawinga scored twice and her sister, Tabitha, added another as Malawi claimed a historic win over the defending champions. The Super Falcons now need strong results against Zambia and Egypt to keep their qualification hopes alive. Oshoala described the defeat as a wake-up call and appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the team. Nigeria have qualified for every edition of the Women’s World Cup since the competition began in 1991. Their best performance was reaching the quarter-finals in 1999.
