Obidient Movement Rebrands as #OBEDIENT, Ousts Peter Obi and Yunusa Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Obidient Movement has been disbanded and rebranded as the #OBEDIENT Movement. All affiliations with Peter Obi, Yunusa Tanko and others appointed under the unauthorised post-2023 structure have been revoked. Organisers cited “political prostitution” and personal gain as reasons for the expulsion. Dr Barry Avotu Johnson, the group’s International Coordinator, confirmed at an Abuja press briefing that they no longer support any candidate for 2027 and have cut ties with the Labour Party. Johnson added that the original ideals of the movement were abandoned after the last election, making a fresh start essential. No new presidential candidate has been endorsed at this stage.

Do you think the new name hints at a shift in their core goals or just a fresh look?

The timing of ousting Peter Obi and Yunusa feels abrupt, almost like an internal power play rather than genuine reform.

I'm not convinced branding alone addresses deeper issues, they need a clear strategy beyond a catchy hashtag to regain trust.

Make we monitor how OBEDIENT sets transparent leadership guidelines before considering any followership, accountability starts with clear roles and responsibilities.
