Tinubu Launches Full-Scale Operation to Rescue Abducted Schoolchildren in Oyo and Borno
President Bola Tinubu has ordered a full-scale rescue mission for more than 80 students and teachers seized in recent attacks in Oyo and Borno states. The information minister announced this at a national security briefing in Abuja. On May 15, gunmen abducted 39 pupils and seven teachers from three schools in Oriire LGA, Oyo. Two people were killed during the raid and one of the captives later died in captivity. In mid-May, about 42 children were taken from a school in Askira-Uba, Borno. The president has deployed a specialised rescue team, authorised 1,000 forest guards and mobilised all security agencies for aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and community engagement. He vowed that every lawful instrument will be used to secure the safe return of every child and teacher.
