NMA Warns of Healthcare Crisis as LASUTH Resident Doctors Begin Warning Strike
The Nigerian Medical Association has raised alarm over a three-day warning strike by resident doctors at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The NMA cautions that unresolved welfare and professional demands could spark broader disruptions across Lagos and beyond. Doctors at LASUTH are calling for completion of modern quarters and training facilities, payment of revised allowances, specialist allowances for senior registrars, and enhanced security measures. They say prior engagement with the state government yielded no progress, making industrial action their last resort. The association urges the Lagos State Government, hospital managements and federal health authorities to engage immediately with the Association of Resident Doctors leadership. Failure to act could prompt an indefinite strike, compounding existing concerns over a nationwide ultimatum issued by resident doctors in June.
