FG Approves Sweeping Allowance Hike and 100% Exit Package for Civil Servants

FG Approves Sweeping Allowance Hike and 100% Exit Package for Civil Servants

The Federal Government has approved a wide-ranging review of allowances and welfare benefits for public servants. The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation announced that allowances under CONPSS and CONRAISS have been uplifted across all grades. Key increases include duty tour allowance, estacode and book allowance. Civil servants attending approved training programmes will now receive 100% duty tour allowance, even for local courses. Additionally, the government has introduced an exit benefit that grants retiring workers 100% of their annual emoluments, on top of their pension, from January 2026. The Employee Compensation Scheme will soon become operational to support workers injured or killed on duty. These reforms aim to improve take-home pay, enhance financial stability and boost productivity in the public service amid rising living costs.

The promised uplift under CONPSS and CONRAISS sounds impressive, but rising living costs could easily swallow any real pay gains fast.

A full exit package may look generous, yet injecting so much cash at once could stress government finances over the medium term.

No be small thing the new allowances; staff should verify updated rates, adjust personal budgets, and seek HR clarity before payroll runs.
