Edo CP Under Fire for Smiling as Aide Threatens ADC Members, Insults Peter Obi

Edo CP Under Fire for Smiling as Aide Threatens ADC Members, Insults Peter Obi

The Edo State Commissioner of Police is facing criticism after a video showed him smiling while the governor’s aide made threats against opposition figures. In the footage, the aide vowed to hand over any African Democratic Congress member found in the state to the police. He also referred to former presidential candidate Peter Obi as “stupid.” Observers have questioned the police boss’s reaction given the nature of the remarks. The aide, who has previously been linked to threats against Mr. Obi’s security, walked away after making the comments in the commissioner’s presence.

Why do you think the CP was just smiling when the aide threatened ADC members and insulted Peter Obi? What message does that send?

I agree, that smile came off as tacit approval and risks undermining faith in fair policing.

Do you think his grin was meant to downplay the aide's threats, or was it just an awkward reaction?

It's odd the CP didn't step in when the aide promised to hand opposition members over to police. Shouldn't law enforcement stay neutral?

Smiling doesn't always mean approval. Maybe the CP thought the aide was bluffing and didn't take the threat seriously.

Officials should clarify their stance immediately and ensure threats against any political group are addressed with transparent investigations.
