Kano Court Remands Husband Over Alleged Ritual Murder of Wife

A Magistrate Court in Rano, Kano State has ordered the remand of Kabir Mu’azu Gwarzo over the alleged killing of his wife, Maryam Isa, for ritual purposes. He was re-arraigned on a charge of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code. The prosecution told the court the offence occurred in Gwarzo village, where the accused is said to have removed parts of his wife’s body. Three witnesses—Abubakar Alkasim, Shehu Hasan and Yau Kabir—testified in support of the charge. Presiding Justice Halima Nasir remanded the defendant in a correctional centre pending further hearing. The case was adjourned to June 19 for continuation of proceedings.
