Senate Approves New Heads for Petroleum Regulator and Anti-Doping Centre

The Senate has confirmed Rabiu Umar as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority. The Joint Committees on Downstream Petroleum Sector and Gas reported that his nomination met all Petroleum Industry Act requirements. No petitions were raised against his confirmation. Mainasara Illo was also approved as Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre. The Senate Joint Committee on Sports Development and Drugs highlighted the centre’s role in protecting the integrity of Nigerian sports and aligning with global anti-doping standards. In addition, Francis Asogwah was confirmed as a commissioner of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission. Seven commissioners for the National Population Commission were also approved, representing Ekiti, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kwara, Katsina, Jigawa, and Sokoto states.
