Oyo Student Walks to School with Cutlass Amid Rising Bandit Attacks
Fear is growing in parts of Oyo State after a secondary school pupil was seen carrying a cutlass to school for self-protection. This follows recent armed attacks on schools in the Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire LGA, where over 40 students, teachers and residents were reportedly abducted. A video shared online shows the boy in full uniform gripping a cutlass as he enters the school compound. Many Nigerians have reacted with alarm, voicing worries about the safety of children in rural areas. Parents and community leaders are calling on the state government and security agencies to beef up patrols and secure all schools in Ogbomoso and neighbouring communities.
