Two Young Men Missing After Flooded River Sweeps Them Away in Kaduna
Two young men have been missing since Saturday in Hayin Malam Bello community, Igabi Local Government, Kaduna State. They were swept away by a river swollen after a heavy downpour as they tried to cross on their way home from nearby Kabala West. Local residents warned the youths that water levels had risen and the current was strong, but they insisted on crossing. Soon after they entered the river, the stronger flow swept them away, and efforts to locate them have so far been unsuccessful. Search and rescue teams from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) and the Kaduna State Fire Service have been at the scene since Sunday morning. The community leader, Alhaji Ibrahim Fage, described the loss as tragic and urged patience as the operation continues. Fage also warned residents, especially young people, to avoid crossing rivers during heavy rains, noting that water levels can rise suddenly and currents become dangerously strong.
