My Narrow Escape from Kidnappers on the Ondo–Kogi Border
Three years ago, I finished work at the military checkpoint between Ondo and Kogi around 4pm. I needed transport but the main road was crowded, so I waited for a ride on a deserted route. By 6pm, a Fulani rider offered to take me for a low fare. As we entered a thick forest, I asked why tourists avoided that road. He hesitated, then warned that kidnappers operated there regularly. I pressed him on how local villagers stayed safe. He explained they knew every path and didn’t travel at night. Despite his reassurance, I realized how risky my decision had been. Looking back, I see how luck and faith guided me safely through that dark stretch. I now share this to remind fellow travellers to choose their routes with caution.
