Florida Democratic Vice Chair Nancy Metayer Bowen Found Dead; Husband Arrested — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Nancy Metayer Bowen, vice chair of Florida’s Democratic Party, was found dead at her home on April 1. Police arrested her husband, Stephen Bowen, 40, in connection with a suspected domestic violence incident. Authorities have not released the exact cause of her death. A first-generation Haitian American, Nancy excelled early in her career. She graduated from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and held internships with NOAA, former Senator Bill Nelson, and the Obama administration. She also led charity projects in Haiti before returning to Florida. In Broward County, she managed the Junior Sustainability Stewards Program and rose through several nonprofits. She served as Coral Springs vice mayor in late 2024 and later directed Caribbean voter outreach for a presidential campaign. In March 2025, she became vice chair of Haitian American voter engagement for the Florida Democratic Party. Her family remembered her as a leader who always put others first.

It's odd that authorities haven't shared a cause of death when charges are already filed against her husband.

I'm not convinced this will prompt more safety measures; cases like this often disappear from public scrutiny too quickly.

Community groups should consider hosting regular information sessions on domestic violence resources and legal rights for local residents.
