My Near Kidnapping Scam in Ogun State: A Contractor’s Warning
I once got a call about a big contract with an international university in Atan, Ogun State. They asked for our company registration, tax ID, directors’ details and previous work proofs. I passed their requests to a local staff member, who then introduced me. After weeks of daily document submissions, I finally spoke with their “representative” on February 2nd. He insisted I attend a site meeting on the 9th and even suggested I stay overnight. I refused and planned a day trip instead. On arrival, he led me through unknown streets until I was taken to a remote hospital compound. Sensing danger, I raised an alarm and summoned locals. They gathered, questioned the young men and nearly mistook them for kidnappers or ritualists. I insisted on going to the police station with the suspects. Though a few youths attacked me, community members recognized a real officer. At the station, the suspects were only told to apologise. I still have all the chat records, photos and videos. This happened in Ogun State—stay alert when dealing with unsolicited project offers.
