Sudan Drone Strikes Kill at Least 28 Civilians in Darfur and Kordofan
At least 28 civilians died in two separate drone strikes in Sudan. In Saraf Omra, North Darfur, a strike on March 25 hit a parked oil truck near a market. The blast killed 22 people, including a child, and injured 17. Hundreds of kilometres away in North Kordofan, another strike hit a vehicle between El-Rahad and Um Rawaba. Six civilians burned to death and ten others were wounded. Health workers blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. These attacks reflect an escalating drone war between Sudan’s army and the RSF. Both sides face accusations of targeting civilian areas. According to the UN, more than 500 civilians have died in drone strikes since January. The wider conflict began in April 2023 between former allies. It has caused tens of thousands of deaths and displaced around 11 million people. The UN envoy has launched a visit to support peace efforts, while Chad warns of a possible response to cross-border attacks.
