Federal High Court Dismisses Suit to Force Recognition of Turaki-Led PDP Interim Committee

A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a suit seeking to compel INEC to recognise and publish the names of the Kabiru Turaki-led interim National Working Committee of the PDP. Justice Salim Ibrahim held that the plaintiffs, led by PDP Board of Trustees chairman Adolphus Wabara, lacked legal standing and that the suit was an abuse of court process. He upheld INEC’s preliminary objection and similar challenges from party factions aligned with the Wike camp. The plaintiffs, including former Governor Babangida Aliyu and Prof. Jerry Gana, argued that INEC was bound by constitutional provisions to accept their May letters. The court ruled the matter academic, noting existing judgments in favour of the Mohammed-led executives. In a cost order to discourage frivolous pre-election suits, the judge imposed ₦70 million on the plaintiffs and ₦10 million personally on their counsel.
