Fan the Flame: Guarding Your Spiritual Gift

Calvary greetings, brethren! Today we are reminded to guard the spiritual gift and knowledge God has placed within us. Just like Eli, who tolerated his sons’ corruption and faced dire consequences, we must not allow small compromises to fester. The priest’s failure to enforce God’s laws led to a curse on his household (1 Samuel 3:14). Recall Paul’s prayer for Timothy: fan into flame the gift of God within you. The Spirit gives power, love, and self-discipline. We must live in holiness and walk the narrow path. As we enter our parishes tomorrow, let no one steal the gift Christ has given us. May we stand firm in truth and experience the abundant life promised by our Savior. Amen.

It's interesting that Eli's tolerance of small sins escalated into grave failure; perhaps we downplay minor compromises at our own risk.

I'm not convinced that every minor slip is disastrous; sometimes grace allows us room to learn from small mistakes.
