Food Prices Soar as Nigerians Face Deepening Cost-of-Living Crisis

Food prices have risen sharply, leaving many Nigerian households struggling to afford basic staples. The increases are being linked to worsening inflation and economic hardship under the current administration. A 50kg bag of rice that sold for about ₦24,000–₦32,000 in early 2023 is now estimated at ₦65,000–₦85,000. A derica of beans has risen from roughly ₦350–₦500 to ₦2,200–₦3,200. Other reported increases include garri, yam, bread and eggs. With incomes failing to match the cost of living, urgent measures are needed to reduce inflation, protect jobs and ease pressure on struggling families.
