APC Appeal Petition Fuels Fresh Controversy over Lagos Primaries, Tinubu Voices Concern
A formal appeal petition has reignited debate over the All Progressives Congress primary in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II. Former lawmaker Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson alleges widespread irregularities, intimidation and result manipulation during the exercise. He accuses the local council chairman of abusing his office to impose a preferred candidate. The petition claims members’ voting rights were suppressed and security operatives intimidated voters. Returning officers reportedly used unofficial materials to record and announce results, while a journalist covering the poll had their phone seized and data deleted. Sources say President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed displeasure at a late-night meeting with South-West APC leaders. He warned against candidate imposition and urged the party to ensure transparent primaries. The APC working committee reportedly withheld disputed results pending Abuja’s ratification.
