Zamfara Assembly Suspends Two Local Government Chairmen Over Alleged Fund Misuse
The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended two local government chairmen over suspected financial misappropriation. The affected officials are Mannir Mu’azu Haidara of Kaura Namoda LGA and Umar A. Faru of Bukkuyum LGA. The suspension followed a report by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu Gumm presented the findings, and Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki led the adoption. Lawmakers unanimously endorsed the recommendations. The assembly spokesperson, Bello Kurya, said both chairmen failed to respond to invitations to explain their use of council funds. Their absence was deemed a breach of legislative oversight. The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place pending an investigation of all 14 councils’ 2025 finances. The two must hand over duties to their vice chairmen. The assembly has sent its resolution to the executive for implementation, underscoring its commitment to transparency and good governance.
