Veteran PM NEWS Editor David Odey, Pillar of Modern Nigerian Journalism, Dies at 63
David Odey, a veteran Nigerian journalist and former PM NEWS editor, has died at 63 after a brief illness in his hometown of Okuku, Cross River State. He is survived by his wife and two children. Across a distinguished 30-year career, Odey held key editorial roles at major publications including Evening Express, Midday Newspaper, Newsbreak and PM NEWS. He earned a journalism diploma from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and a BA in English from the University of Lagos. His passing has prompted heartfelt tributes from colleagues at Independent Communications Network Limited and fellow journalists. Former presidential adviser Senator Babafemi Ojudu described Odey’s professionalism, punctuality and dedication as invaluable to Nigerian journalism, noting his role in mentoring younger reporters and upholding high newsroom standards.
