US Approves $2bn Arms Sale to Saudi Arabia to Bolster Air Defences

US Approves $2bn Arms Sale to Saudi Arabia to Bolster Air Defences

The US State Department has authorised a $1.96bn sale of military equipment to Saudi Arabia, including up to 20,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems alongside launchers, rocket motors, spare parts, logistics and technical support. Officials say the deal aims to strengthen the kingdom’s ability to counter current and emerging threats, improve the security of its territory and enhance military interoperability with US and allied forces in the Gulf region. The proposed sale now moves to a mandatory review by the US Congress, where lawmakers can object before final approval. It underscores Washington’s policy of reinforcing defence capabilities in key non-NATO partnerships amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
