Why Nigerian Churches Might Be Blocking Entrepreneurs’ Path to Wealth
Many Nigerians believe saving and investing in a viable business is the surest route to prosperity. When your venture shows clear structure and cash flow, investors naturally come on board. Yet some church leaders insist you only prosper by paying tithe or earning divine favour. This teaching boosts church revenues but can undermine genuine economic growth. It pits religious revenue needs against principles of industry and vision. I’ve seen this firsthand with large congregations. One church reportedly interfered with my business credit line. Others allegedly tried to sabotage partnerships or even resorted to threats. While Islamic militants may use guns, the economic impact of some Christian leaders can be just as damaging to national development.
