FG Demands Justice After Two Nigerians Were Killed in South Africa
The Federal Government has condemned the killing of Emeka Charles Iroegbu and Musa Yunana Joe in South Africa. It calls on the South African authorities to investigate the incidents quickly and ensure those responsible face justice. One victim died during an alleged interrogation by Tshwane Metro Police in Pretoria. The other was shot outside his shop in Mpumalanga by unknown assailants. No arrests have been made despite officers’ identities being known in one case. The statement warned that a growing pattern of attacks on Nigerians and other foreigners could strain diplomatic ties. It urged lawful processes, fair hearings, and respect for the rights of all individuals. Nigeria also appealed to its citizens in South Africa to stay calm, relocate to safer areas where possible, and avoid retaliation. Registered nationals are being evacuated, and the government stressed that South Africa must protect all foreigners or face further measures.
