ANSIEC Lifts Campaign Ban for 2026 Anambra LG Elections
The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission has lifted its campaign ban ahead of the 2026 local government polls. Political parties can now campaign openly in all 21 council areas. The decision follows the Electoral Act 2022, which permits campaigning from 150 days before voting and ends 24 hours prior to election day. ANSIEC announced the change at its April 1 briefing in Awka. The commission warned against abusive or inciting language and banned armed vigilantes and private security outfits at campaign events. It confirmed 22 chairmanship candidates and 346 councillorship hopefuls. ANSIEC assured that logistics, staffing and security measures are in place for a credible vote. It urged parties to focus on issues, respect the law and end campaigns 24 hours before polling.
