Female Child Among Five Killed in Enugu-Abakaliki Highway Crash

A white Toyota Hiace bus carrying 17 passengers from Abakaliki to Enugu veered off and crashed at the Edema Bridge, Nkalagu, on Friday morning. The Federal Road Safety Corps in Ebonyi confirmed that four male adults and one female child died at the scene. Twelve others—eight men and four women—were injured and taken to Annunciation Hospital, Emene, Enugu, while the bodies have been moved to the morgue. Investigators say speeding was the likely cause. Personal items recovered include phones, sac bags, and a quarter bag of rice. Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously, especially where roadworks are ongoing. The FRSC also asked the construction firm to install clear warning signs to alert drivers.
