Love Without Barriers: How Prejudice Blocks Marriages with Disabled Partners

Marriage should be about love, trust, and shared values. Yet many people with disabilities struggle to find partners—not because they lack those qualities, but because society places unnecessary barriers in their way. Fear of public opinion, myths about dependence, and misconceptions about parenting all feed prejudice. Financial exclusion and harmful beliefs—like associating disability with curses—only deepen the divide. Limited exposure to people with disabilities lets stereotypes thrive. When character, honesty, and commitment are ignored in favor of appearance, everyone loses the chance at a loving, supportive family. We must challenge stigma at home, in faith centres, and in the media. Governments and communities should expand access to education, employment, and public spaces. Only then can love be guided by respect, not by prejudice.

I'm not convinced adding policies alone will change deep-seated biases if individuals don't address their own discomfort around disability.
