Bayelsa Governor Diri Dethrones Swali’s Ebeniken After Security Probe
Governor Douye Diri has withdrawn recognition of King Wilcox Seiyefa as the Ebeniken of Swali Community in Bayelsa State. The removal follows recommendations from a fact-finding committee that investigated recent security breaches in the area. Announced through the deputy governor at Government House, Yenagoa, the action cites Section Six of the state’s Chieftaincy Law on maintaining peace and good governance. The dethroned ruler must surrender his Certificate of Recognition and Staff of Office to the local government secretary within one month. The governor has directed that an electoral process for a new paramount ruler begins by June 30 and concludes within three months. A five-member electoral committee will oversee the vote. Meanwhile, caretaker committees have been set up for Swali and Ogboinbiri to support stability and unity.
