Tinubu Government Accused of Blocking ADC’s National Convention Venues
The African Democratic Congress says the Tinubu administration has refused to approve its requests to hold a national convention at Eagle Square and the Velodrome. ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi told reporters that applications for both venues went unanswered or were declined. Amid internal leadership disputes and a stand-off with INEC, party chieftain Ralph Nwosu insists the ADC met all legal requirements. He says INEC endorsed its program and the convention slated for the 14th will go ahead as planned. Opposition leaders led by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal and Rauf Aregbesola recently protested at INEC’s Abuja office. They accused the presidency of using electoral bodies to weaken rival parties and threaten Nigeria’s democracy. The presidency denies these allegations. ADC leaders remain determined to proceed with their convention despite ongoing venue hurdles.
