Atiku, Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen Clear ADC Screening for 2027 Ticket
The African Democratic Congress held its presidential screening at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and economist Muhammed Hayatu-Deen all passed the committee’s assessment ahead of the party primary. Party leaders are exploring a consensus choice to avoid the cost and logistics of direct primaries. The leadership has emphasised that any method must be transparent and inclusive. Failing a compromise, direct primaries will proceed on May 25. After screening, Amaechi pledged support for a consensus process if all aspirants are involved. Hayatu-Deen urged practical solutions to insecurity, unemployment and rising food prices. Atiku outlined a roadmap centred on job creation, private-sector growth and intelligence-led security operations. The screening panel is chaired by former Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke, with other senior party figures completing the team. Recommendations from this exercise will guide the ADC primary on May 25.
