Funeral Plans Announced for Super Eagles Legend Henry Nwosu
The family of former Super Eagles midfielder Henry Nwosu has released a schedule of events ahead of his burial. Activities begin with a Night of Tributes on Monday, June 1, at Saint Finbarr’s College in Akoka, Lagos, from 4pm to 7pm. A Service of Songs will follow on Thursday, June 4, in his hometown of Umukwoma Umuorie-Naze, Imo State, starting at 4pm. On Friday, June 5, Lagos Legends and Imo Legends will face off in a novelty football match at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. The official funeral ceremony takes place on Saturday, June 6, with a lying-in-state and funeral mass at his family home, then burial. A thanksgiving service will close the week on Sunday, June 7, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Naze by 10am. Nwosu was part of Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations–winning team. He later served on the board of Heartland FC and coached the under-17 national team. He is celebrated for mentoring young players and fostering football development in Nigeria.
